Keychron has teased an upcoming version of its V6 keyboard featuring a new “Nova Socket architecture” that supports both mechanical switches and analogue magnetic switches in the same board. The keyboard uses TMR (Tunneling Magnetoresistance) sensing technology, which is the same sensor type Keychron already uses in its wireless HE keyboard series but has now adapted for a hybrid platform.

The teaser, shared on X, shows a full-size V6 keyboard with a plastic case (V-series construction, not the aluminum Q-series) and a conventional layout with a programmable knob above the backspace key, a complete navigation cluster, a full-size numpad with a full-width zero key, and a four-key macro row above the numpad. The keycaps appear to be Keychron’s in-house OSA profile (OEM height with more rounded edges and a cylindrical top).

What Is the Nova Socket Architecture?

The Nova Socket is the headline feature here. It is a hot-swap socket designed to accept both standard mechanical switches and analogue magnetic switches. This means you could build the keyboard with silent linear switches for office work and swap in magnetic switches for gaming sessions without changing the board.

Most keyboards with magnetic switch support use Hall Effect or TMR sensors soldered to the PCB with dedicated magnetic switch contacts. Keychron’s Nova Socket appears to combine both electrical paths into a single socket footprint, letting the user choose which switch type they want on a per-key basis.

This approach has been rumored in the mechanical keyboard community for a while, but Keychron is the first major brand to bring it to a production design. The V6 is positioned as the launch platform, which suggests Keychron is testing the technology on their more affordable V-series before potentially bringing it to their premium Q-series line.

TMR vs Hall Effect: Why It Matters for This Keyboard

TMR sensors are more power-efficient than traditional Hall Effect sensors. In wireless keyboards, this translates to noticeably better battery life. Keychron has used TMR in its wireless HE keyboards for this reason.

For the V6, the TMR sensor choice is interesting because the V6 is a wired keyboard (V-series does not typically include wireless). The efficiency advantage is less relevant on a wired board. What TMR does bring is potentially better precision and stability across temperature ranges compared to Hall Effect sensors. In practice, the difference is unlikely to be perceptible during normal typing or gaming, but the sensor choice makes the platform more adaptable for future wireless iterations.

Full-Size Layout With Macro Row

The teased V6 is a proper full-size board with 100% layout including:

  • Standard F-row (F1-F12)
  • Full navigation cluster (Insert, Home, Page Up, etc.)
  • Dedicated arrow keys
  • Numpad with full-width zero key
  • Four-key macro row above the numpad
  • Programmable rotary knob positioned above the backspace key

Full-size gaming keyboards with macro rows are relatively rare in the enthusiast space. Most brands focus on TKL and 75% layouts for gaming. Keychron’s decision to launch the hybrid socket on a full-size board suggests they are targeting users who want both productivity (numpad, macro keys) and gaming performance (magnetic switches, TMR sensing) in a single keyboard.

What This Means for the Keyboard Market

Keychron’s hybrid socket approach is a meaningful step forward. Until now, buying a keyboard with magnetic switch support meant committing to magnetic switches only. Standard mechanical switch keyboards and HE/TMR keyboards have been separate product categories with separate PCBs and separate price points.

The Nova Socket changes that:

  • One board, two switch ecosystems
  • No need to choose between mechanical typing feel and magnetic performance features
  • Per-key flexibility (linear mechanical on alphas, magnetic on WASD and modifiers)
  • Future-proofing: if a better switch technology arrives, you are not locked into the current magnetic ecosystem

Keychron already offers Hall Effect switches in its C-series and HE-series keyboards. The company recently expanded its HE switch lineup with tactile and silent options. This hybrid approach builds on that momentum.

When Will It Launch?

Keychron has not announced a release date or pricing. The teaser confirms the design and technology are finalized, but no availability window has been shared. Given that the V-series is Keychron’s budget-friendly line, the V6 with Nova Socket is expected to be more affordable than premium HE keyboards from Wooting and Razer while offering the most flexible switch ecosystem on the market.

Keychron has published the official pre-launch page for this keyboard, and it reveals significant details beyond the initial teaser. The keyboard is officially called the V6 Ultra HE (not just V6) and features specs that far exceed what the teaser suggested.

Corrected Name & Launch Format

The board is now live as the V6 Ultra HE and is launching via Kickstarter with a VIP reservation campaign running June 15 to July 21, 2026. A refundable deposit secures early-bird pricing and first-batch access.

Why This Matters

The V6 Ultra HE is the first full-size keyboard to offer per-key choice between mechanical and magnetic switches on the same PCB. Full-size gaming keyboards with gasket mounts, wireless, and 8K polling are extremely rare, and none currently offer hybrid switch compatibility. The addition of 2.4 GHz wireless and Bluetooth means the board is not wired-only as originally assumed from its V-series naming.
